Picture this scenario- After months of searching for a house, you were finally able to rent a decent place. You move in and everything seems to be going well. Then one day, you wake up, rush into the bathroom to use the toilet and when you're done, it refuses to flush.
This had to be one of the most annoying things that happened to me in the first rented accommodation I stayed at. It just never used to occur to me to account for the cost of maintaining a home; everything that spoilt in the house always used to take me by surprise. I must have subconsciously expected that once I paid the rent for a house, everything in the house was automatically supposed to work perfectly fine during the duration of my stay there. Imagine! I even found changing light-bulbs annoying; like- "what right do you have to just go off randomly?" And what was worse was that these things would always happen when I was either rushing to work or expecting a visitor🙄.
However, I soon realized how unrealistic I was being. No matter how inconvenient, home maintainance comes with getting a house. Living anywhere is a running cost; so, always take into consideration the cost and ease of maintainance when getting a house.
