Rodents- the most terrifying creatures you could ever find in your home, asides from snakes of course. As silly as this sounds, I would rather sleep outside than in a house with rodents. Okay, maybe that's untrue, but they are so disgusting- I'm just in tears imagining it.
During my final year in university, the accommodation I stayed at was rat-infested; mostly because there were garbage cans in front of every room and we threw everything in there- from spoilt food to unfinished snacks. So, as you can imagine, the place was a breeding ground for rodents. In fact, we had names for the rats. If my memory serves me well, the name of one of the rats was George- we believed he was male because he would always run to the bathroom and stare at the ladies when we were showering.
I also remember that during my second year at university, my roommate would always travel, leaving me alone with a rat that ran in the roof every night. As you can imagine, my university experience was not the most pleasant one and it left me pretty traumatized; so much so that, if I suspect that there is a rodent in my home, I'm spraying all the sprayables and locking all the lockables.
If you can, always fumigate your house before moving in and observe basic hygiene as much as is practicable; such as taking out the trash at the end of the day. Also, try to close every opened space- such as windows, doors, and so on, every night, before going to bed. As stressful as it may seem in the moment to do these things, always remember that finding and killing a rat is way more stressful and could cost you your peace of mind.
